"Hawk, do you have a minute?" Tim asked after they'd left the XO's office. He couldn't wait to go home and tell Ellen about this new adventure, and discuss how this would affect their family. But first he needed to discuss things with his new XO.
Ron looked over at his new Commanding Officer. “Of course,” he said merrily. Even though on the inside he had plans for where he wanted to be.
They moved a bit to the side of the area. "Are you really ok with this posting? You didn't sound very positive about it." Tim started, needing to get this off his chest because at the moment his impression of the man wasn't very securre. "Look, I don't know your story, only seen you're your name come by before it all happened. And while I get your point you were making, I just need to know you are sure in accepting the position." he asked directly. He'd never been a big fan of the subtle approach.
“I’ve been offered other postings, sir. I turned them all down except for Langley. This is my home, and where I belong,” Ron replied with gentleness. “The Fury does not take me away from that. My reservations are more about whether or not I can serve you and the Fury’s crew to the best of my ability. I don’t like doing anything half baked.”
"Good to hear," Tim sid. "And I join you in considering Langley as my home. It's where my family lives."
“Now, are we talking actual family? Or the family we all build with our fellow officers?” Ron asked curiously.
Tim smiled. While he also considered the former Sedna, or Portland crew as family, that was not what he was talking about. "My wife and son. Ellen works on the station as a doctor. Andrew just started school. You got any family here on the station?"
“Yes, and no,” Ron answered thoughtfully. “My sister is married to the Commodores brother. And I have roots here. A…erm… well I don’t know what you’d call her…”
Tim blinked a few times. "Wait, does that make the commodore your sister-in-law. Or you're sister's sister-in-law." He couldn't help but chuckle at. "I thought I had it bad with Admiral Washington being my father-in-law. Not to mention Ellen's brothers."
“Technically my sister’s sister-in-law, but we don’t see it that way,” Ron replied. “I’m not sure what’s worse. Being related to the boss, or the bosses boss!” Ron took a sigh of relief that his reference to Caiomhe hadn’t been pulled upon. He had no idea how to explain her at this point.
"It's a challenge at times." Tim said, trying to remember what exactly his goal was for this imprompto meeting. Something else did came to his mind. "Her? You mean your sister, or someone else?"
“My sister lives on Earth,” Ron replied almost hand waving her mention. “There’s someone else on the station. There’s…something there…something special…” he didn’t really have the words to describe what it was exactly. He wanted to tell the whole world how he felt, but truth be told they’d not had much of a chance to be together.
"Special enough to call this your home?" He said from experience. "It wasn't until I found Ellen that the ship, or station, I was serving really became a home. Before that it was just a place to work and live."
The corners of Rons mouth curled into a boyish grin. "I suppose that is what makes this place home, even after all it's change. She's been one of the few constants."
"Those realisations are when you know you need to treasure her and hold on to her." Tim replied.
Ron nodded in contemplation. He certainly didn't want to let Caiomhe go. He shook himself back to professionalism. "I take it you didn't pull me aside to talk about love interests?" Ron asked, attempting to pull the conversation around to the point.
Tim laughed. "Good point, although you must know the saying here the heart is full off, ... Anyway, do you have any more information about the ship." He paused for a second as he thought about something. "Is the ship already docked at the station."
“Due to arrive tonight,” Ron chirped very matter of factly. “Officially here as a patrol vessel, but it’s a Defiant Class. We all know it’s here for defence.”
Tim knew exactly what Ron was referring to, a little vessel as a defiant class was never just for patrol. "Yep, and with everything happened 18 months ago, we all know why they placed a defiant here." He was getting excited, even if it would change his life drastically.
“As much as I’d rather not be spread thin, I think there’s a reason they want a Strategic Officer from the station on board the Fury as its executive officer,” Ron suggested. “It makes liaising Langley’s defence that little bit smoother.”
"And with expertise in tactical, they definitely have plans for us beyond simply patrol." Tim said. "If only they would simply outright say it."
“Since when does Star Fleet just say anything?” Ron let out a chuckle at the thought.
"Exactly," Tim chuckled. "So, how do you want to do this. Is there already a crew assigned besides us, or do we get to choose anything?" he thought out loud. "Want to meet up tomorrow to take a tour?"
“I don’t know sir, there might be more information in our docket’s about the crew situation,” Ron offered. “As for meeting up for a tour? Do you really think I’d pass up the chance?” Ron’s face started to look boyish in nature as he revelled at the idea of exploring the ship before it was ready.
"I'll see what I can find at a terminal later tonight." Tim mused. "We can meet at the docking hatch at 9." He quickly did some mental math to see how that would fit with Andrew's school times.
"0900 hours tomorrow," repeated Ron. "Sounds like a plan. I'll see you then, unless there is anything else Captain?" He emphasised the word Captain as if congratulating Tim on his new command. After all it was traditional that any CO be called Captain regardless of rank.
Hearing being called Captain did thing to him. Reminded him of a few years back when he had to be acting Captain when Meru was incapacitated. Thank God it was in better circumstances this time. "I'll see you tomorrow." He couldn't wait to go home and tell Ellen all that happened the last hour.
