Mission: S03E01 - Something about Tribbles
Location: Langley Station - Conference Room
Timeline: MD 02 - 10.00

ON:

"They're waiting for you, ma'am." Alex said. "The majority has assembled in the conference room." Kate looked up and thanked her yeoman. This is it, she thought. She grabbed the box with the gold pip from the desk, put it in her pocket and headed to the room.

Seated beside Anahera, Richard was leaning in close as he studying the information she was explaining to him on the PADD. They had both arrived a little early to go over the theory of some hand to hand combat skills; although his current alcoholic induced headache wasn't helping.

Leaning over, he brushed against the officers arm as he reached over to point to a body position, "So your telling me that that will actually work against someone twice my size?"

"Yes, it's all about balance, disrupting theirs, while keeping your own." Anahera replied.

"Ha!" Richard laughed as he shook his head in puzzelment, not helping his cause with the headache giving a sharp pain to remind him of last nights over indulgence. "Right...let's see how that goes next week when you try to flatten me again!"

Of course that last sentence was exactly what Kate picked up right as she walked into the room. As she headed to her seat she avoided his glance and sat down with a "Goodmorning all," doing her best not to let anyone notice how much that simple sentence hurt to hear.

Caoimhe glanced from her tablet to Kate as she heard her speak. She was still lost in a world of her own after the night before. "Good morning Commodore."

"Good morning, Commodore." Anahera said to Kate.

Seeing all chairs were taken she glanced over at the Padd in front of her before looking up at the group. "Welcome to this weeks senior staff briefing. Before we talk about the obvious topic for this meeting, the arrival of the Tellarite delegation, I'd like to go over some smaller topic." she started. "Commander Drevas, I was made aware you had something to discuss."

"A lack of manpower, Commodore. My department is functioning at only 50% of acceptable baseline." Drevas replies smoothly.

Taynor nodded a silent agreement with this.

Richard glanced down at his PADD as he pulled up the stats for strategic operations. "With the loss of people on the last station and the setup on the new station; all departments are running low as the new station runs at more than four times the capacity than we were previously used to. With you now having an assistant head in place we could look at further recruitment for the department. What do you foresee you'll need?"

"Intelligence officers, two analysts. And two tactical officers at the very least." Drevas replies. "You will find my full detailed request for personnel filed as of forty minutes ago."

"Alrighty...let's see what we can do. In fairness your request is fair." Richard made some notes before looking back up, "Anybody else want to chime in while we are discussing personnel?"

Caoimhe sat forward in her chair, "Yes I do. Since the establishment of this station; science and research have taken a direct back seat to a focus on being a regional hub. My department suffered the most losses in the explosion as we had the highest percentage of staff on the old station with it's focus being on research. With the size of this station quadrupling; there's been no move made to replenish my staff."

Again the CMO nodded visibly adding her agreement. "I agree completely, it's similar for Medical as well, particularly with the Research staff as just mentioned. With so many more to look after we're flat out with our primary functions as medics, and I'm not complaining about being busy, but a lot of the original satisfaction and appeal of working on this station was in the progress and opportunities to do the Research and work 'in the field' as it were.... building, growing and making a contribution to something for all to benefit from and share in."

Richard pinched the bridge of his nose; realising that he should have seen this coming. He's seen the endless messages but it had been easier to ignore them with the hive of station activity. "I know that it's a sore spot moving from being a research station to a hub..."

Caoimhe quickly cut off her senior officer, an icy look settling into her eyes as her tone turned icy also. "This has nothing to do with a sore spot. We have a damn forest and lake on the station as well as countless recreational areas which require science intervention to maintain as well as grounds keeping. Our new biotape area which requires delicate balances in order to preserve air purity and the manufacture of its own weather and eco systems. That's then not taking into account medical advances division. This new station is a completely new divination away from what we had before and I'm being asked to head it with a lesser staff on top of not having the necessary positions on the team filled."

Richard glanced across to Kate as if she might save him before looking back at Caoimhe. "Ok...we appreciate your feedback. Can you send us a request for what personnel are essential as of this point. Let's see what we can do to back fill those positions and then put a more concrete long-term plan in place for moving into the future? Would you concur Commodore?"

"Sounds like a plan. Research deserves the attention when it comes to personnel placement." Kate simply answered.

Caoimhe nodded her appreciation in Kate's direction; hopeful that at least one part of the command team showed the competance to not over complicated the situation and just get it resolved. The icy gaze still there though when she looked back to Richard; they had never gotten along and she didn't see that changing anytime soon.

Arianna added a nod of acknowledgement and a smile of thanks for the progress and assistance promised.

"Alrighty...anyone else got anything that they wish to bring up before we move onto the next manner of business?" Richard couldn't help feeling that he had gotten away lightly that time. Caoimhe's intense gaze was still boring into the side of his face; making him truly wonder how on earth Hawk was ever able to manage her.
