The Marines Arrive - Part One

Mission: First Unity
Location: Marine Forward Base 'Butler' - Near Cardassian Space
Timeline: Mission Day 44 at 1430

ON:

Major Eemja Tezia, Company Q Commander, made her way to Battalion Commander, Lt. Colonel Stjepan Pavlović's office and pressed the chime.

"Enter, Captain." He said rising from his desk.

"You wished to see me, sir?" Tezia said coming to attention in front of his desk.

"Yes, at ease." Pavlović said. "As you know we have been assigned to the Lyshan Colony. Well, I'd like you to take Company Q and prepare for our arrival."

"Thank you, sir." Tezia replied. "Permission to speak freely, sir?"

"Granted." Pavlović replied.

"I"m honored, but am I really the best person for the job?" She asked.

"Tezia, you're a trained and experienced builder and architect. I can't think of anyone better." He told her.

"Consider it done." Tezia said.

"Okay," Pavlović said with a smile. You leave at 1300 hours a week from today, You'll be taking the USS Hastings and Cargo Freighter G9." "Any questions?"

"What about the colonists?" Tezia asked.

"Make sure you set up at least 5 klicks from the locals, that way you're close enough to render aid, but far enough away to stay out of their hair. Also, I shouldn't have to remind you that we're guests on Lyshan and Command doesn't want to hear about drunk grunts causing a brouhaha on the colony."

"Understood, sir." Tezia said. "Any Marine who steps out of line will feel my boot up their ass."

"Oorah, Captain. Good luck. Dismissed." Pavlović replied.

"Aye, Sir." Tezia replied and left the office.

0830 hours Launch Day
Marine Forward Base 'Butler'
Hanger Bay 3

Hanger Personnel moved to and fro doing last minute maintenance checks and securing cargo.

Tezia had already stowed her gear and briefed her Platoon leaders, so now she was lending a hand.

"Captain, we could use a couple of your men to help us load the ion generators." The Duty Sergeant told the Bajoran Major.

"Okay." She tapped her comm. "1st Platoon assemble a team to help load the cargo."

"Aye, sir." Came the response of the Platoon Commander.

"Help is on its way, Sergeant." she told the Duty Sergeant.

"Thanks, Captain."

1300 hours Launch Day
USS Hastings
Bridge

Starfleet Captain Thomas Avery sat in the command chair, his XO, Lt. Commander Jevera Esaka sat to his right, while Major Eemja Tezia, sat to his left.

"Butler Operations have given us the clear to launch." Lt. James Wentworth reported from the Ops station.

"Thank you, Lieutenant." Avery said. "Open a shipwide channel."

"Channel open." Wentworth replied.

"Crew, this is Captain Avery, we're cleared for launch, so make all necessary preparations, we leave in five. That is all." Avery said.

He then turned to Tezia, so, Captain, scuttlebutt says, you've been charged with establishing a base on Lyshan. Well if that's true, I wish you luck. The Dominion did a number on that planet and I hear the colonist don't take kindly to visitors."

"With all due respect, Captain, my mission is none of your concern." Tezia said. "Your orders are to get me and my people to Lyshan. What we do once we're there is of no consequence to you or your crew, is that clear?" She asked.

Avery felt his blood pressure rising and is about to give this young upstart a piece of his mind.

Detecting her Captain's emotions, Esaka placed a calming hand on his shoulder.

Avery took a deep breath and said. "Crystal."

"Sir, all departments report ready." Lt. Wentworth reported.

"Good." Avery replied. "Helm take us out, 1 quarter impulse."

"Engaging engines, 1 quarter impulse, Aye, sir."The Helmsman said as his fingers flew across his console.
