Mission:
First Unity
Location: Langley Station - Deck 08 - Conference Room 01
Timeline: Mission Day 65 at 1300
ON:
Trigman, newly brought in as the Commander Air Group is attending his first meeting officially on the station. He thought it time he add some to the discussion.
"If I may add to the Commander's statement?" He sought to Interject. "Major Trigman; your new CAG ma'am." He introduced himself. "That operation was with a single squadron of craft; we can, in theory, Two more squadrons for a similar operation without pressing the Continuous Air Patrol of the Station Airspace effectively. The Cap can maintain protective status and if Research requires we can do more runs to drop the ordinance they pack for us and help with their experiments."
At this moment the door swished open and in came an extremely flustered and sweaty Lieutenant Junior grade. “Sorry I’m late,” John Warren announced to the room as he scuffled for his seat. “What have I missed?”
Kate looked at the junior lieutenant who just entered. "I assume you have a good excuse for being late. After the meeting is over you can find someone to brief you on the matter discussed so far." Kate said. "Until then, please share any updates from your department with the rest of the team."
“Erm, some staffing issues ma’am,” John half lied, as he remembered the scuffle he had just had with a particularly unwilling shuttle pilot. “As for my report,” he began ready to reel off the same old speech he had given every day since he took this post. “We currently have a Mendreá docked at docking bay 2, due to leave 1800 today. No other departures expected, and no new arrivals until tomorrow,” he rattled off filling in the blanks of the well rehearsed script.
"Thank you, " she said as she looked around the table. "Anyone else have something that's worth mentioning to the team?"
"Lieutenant Warren have you heard anything about new narcotics on the station?" Anahera asked. "As there have been rumours about it in some of the surrounding systems."
"I've told you before Lieutenant commander, that if you want some narcotic's, I'm not your go to guy. Honestly do I look like I look like some sort of drug pusher to you?" Warren joked. "But in all seriousness," he went on. "I haven't heard much more than whispers. Sorry ma'am."
"Thank you, Lieutenant, sorry for the confusion, but you remind of a guy I knew on Risa in 2290s. Perhaps he was one of your ancestors?" Anahera replied with a smile.
"Felicium," noted Tuula, referring to the notorious drug. Previously used as a pain medication, it was commonly used by labourers and was rapidly spreading throughout the quadrant. With the increased demand, however, the criminal element had begun cutting it with other, cheaper, more potent drugs. "We haven't seen any cases on the station yet, but I've taken the liberty to prepare our staff for any overdoses," she added. "With your permission, I'd like to set up a safe supply and safe injection program, just in case."
"Tell me more about this drug? How dangerous is it?" Kate asked, having never heard of it before.
"It's not good for you," started Tuula, perhaps stating the obvious. "But the real danger is in overdoses or tainted supply. A harm reduction program run through the medical department would be better than the alternative."
"I've seen its effects first hand on a Yarous IV." Anahera added. "It caused the collapse of that world's society, as the people stopped doing anything to maintain their machines and buildings. Many starved to death as no one produced food." She said. "On Yarous IV it was sold as a health supplement by an off-world drug company."
"Yes," replied Tuula, having nodded alongwith Ana's explanation, before turning back to the captain, "out staff is trained to manage addictions, but a harm reduction program would be prudent to avoid overdoses."
A beep from the console in the middle of the table signaled that Kate's attention was needed elsewhere. "Apperently I need to go already. If there is anything else you'd like to discuss feel free to come by my office later today." she said as she stood up. "Dismissed"
