Personality & Traits
| General Overview | Casshan believes that everyone deserves a second chance—sometimes to a fault. His empathy extends even to those who might harm him, and he will always try to defuse conflict before resorting to confrontation. While he occasionally lets vanity or self-interest guide his choices, his heart is in the right place. Loyal, forgiving, and endlessly curious, Casshan is the kind of man who would risk embarrassment—or worse—just to understand someone better. He can be a little too open-minded for his own good, yet his optimism and emotional intuition usually see him through. Those who befriend him find an ally for life: imperfect, but steadfast. |
|
| Strengths & Weaknesses | Strengths: Deep empathy, emotional intelligence, adaptable nature, natural negotiator, loyal friend. Weaknesses: Overly trusting, sometimes vain, struggles with professional boundaries, impulsive when emotionally charged, vulnerable to burnout. Telepathic Ability: Moderate telempath—adept at sensing emotional states but prone to exhaustion if overexposed. Crowded or emotionally volatile settings can overwhelm him. |
|
| Ambitions | To make a genuine difference in the lives of others—though he’s still learning what that truly requires. | |
| Hobbies & Interests | Writing and reading; exploring holonovels; swimming (and occasional skinny-dipping); cooking; rock climbing; cultural studies; and the exploration of ancient spiritual systems, particularly Egyptian art and symbolism, which he interprets as metaphors for healing, rebirth, and emotional protection. | |
| Languages | Federation Standard, Betazoid. |
History
| Personal History | How My Parents Met: Ashlee and Braka met while studying at the First University of Betazed, where her composed intellect balanced his unpredictable energy. Their demanding careers left Casshan frequently shuttled between postings, his upbringing divided between discipline and absence. Personal History: Casshan’s early life unfolded aboard starships and Federation colonies. His telempathic senses surfaced early, bringing more distress than advantage. Emotional overload led to outbursts and conflicts during his childhood, prompting his mother to enlist shipboard counsellors to help him gain control. By eight, he had learned to manage his abilities—enough to stop being a disruptive presence in class, though he never lost his mischievous streak. He sought friendship through rebellion, forming a tight trio of troublemakers whose bond ran deeper than schoolyard mischief. By adolescence, Casshan realized he was attracted to other boys, a truth that frightened him until he confessed his feelings to his friends just before his family relocated to Earth. Life on Earth gave Casshan a measure of stability. His interest in psychology grew alongside a fascination with ancient Egyptian culture and its philosophies of renewal and balance. These studies inspired many of his tattoos—protective sigils etched as reminders of resilience rather than ornaments. At fifteen, he entered Starfleet Academy, sponsored by his mother. He pursued the Medical Branch with a specialization in Counselling, performing well but never excelling. His professors noted strong intuition and empathy but warned of “over-identification with patients.” Friendships came easily, as did brief romantic encounters, though his emotional transparency sometimes blurred boundaries. Romantic Connections Jaden Mak: Trill, former colleague and confidant. Thortran h’Idran: Andorian, academy acquaintance. He later added Diplomatic and First Contact Studies, seeing in them a chance to channel his empathy into structured service. After graduation, he was assigned to the USS Olympic, an Olympic-class medical vessel, where he split duties between counselling and diplomacy. Over time, he became a trusted voice aboard the ship, using warmth and insight to bridge tensions among crew and visiting delegations. |
Service Record
| Service Record | Starfleet Academy: 4 years Advanced Courses: Diplomacy, Negotiation, First Contact, Counselling Psychology, Psychiatry – 2 years USS Olympic: Counsellor – 3 years, Assistant Chief Counsellor/ Diplomatic Officer – 2 years USS Renegade: Chief Counsellor / Chief Diplomatic Officer – 2 years USS Alexandria: Chief Counsellor / Chief Diplomatic Officer – 1 year It was aboard the Alexandria that Casshan made the mistake that changed his career. He entered into an inappropriate relationship with a patient—a lapse that, when discovered, resulted in disciplinary review and loss of standing. Transferred to Starfleet Medical for mandatory therapy and evaluation, Casshan spent two years confronting the consequences of blurred empathy and unchecked intimacy. When his limited counselling license was reinstated, he accepted a position offered by the Diplomatic Corps, serving as Acting Chief Diplomatic Officer at Faltan Station. Though he performed his duties admirably, diplomacy never held his heart. Casshan’s fulfillment came from healing minds, not negotiating treaties. Romantic Connections Malec Bane: Human, relationship during Faltan assignment. After three years, he formally requested reassignment—and was accepted as a Counsellor aboard Langley Station, a smaller outpost near the Cardassian Demilitarized Zone. There, he resumed what he believed he was born to do. Despite his restricted license, Casshan approached the role with renewed purpose, slowly rebuilding professional trust and personal confidence. Langley Station’s destruction came without warning. Casshan survived the catastrophe on the surface of a nearby planet, tending to the wounded and providing emotional support to those who shared his isolation. For the survivors, the event was transformative—grief interwoven with the strange calm that follows survival. When Starfleet commissioned a new, larger Spacedock-class replacement, it bore the same name: Langley Station. Casshan returned with the other survivors, sensing that the rebuilt station symbolized their collective rebirth. Serving aboard the new installation, he found renewed clarity. Life aboard slowly regained its rhythm, and for the first time in years, Casshan felt both useful and grounded. He often muses that the station’s resurrection mirrors his own—that, like Langley, he was rebuilt with scars, but stronger for them. Current Status Langley Station (Spacedock-class) – Counsellor Casshan has reclaimed his place as a counsellor, though his license remains under conditional review. Once a man defined by emotional excess, he now practices balance with deliberate care. He still believes deeply in second chances—perhaps because he knows, better than most, how much they can cost. |
