Langley Station

Welcome to Langley Station!

We, here at Langley, are absolutely not your "average RPG". Our primary focus is providing our writers with a shipload (of individual opportunities, including a focus on PC and NPC reactions. As a simm, our focus is on individual character development, coupled collaboration between our writers, and even with other RPG’s. We operate in our own, unique open world system. As a result, we run 'mini-missions' that focus on events related to the fleet, or more frequently, specifically to station development: reflections of an ever-changing set of political and logistical realities in our stellar neighborhood. We strive for each writer to have a firm idea of what their personal story is: and as a Command Team, it's our goal to mediate, and facilitate, the growth and development of our entire crew as writers and as characters.

Hello lady’s and gentlefolk.

As you are hopefully all aware, we have a Rule that states everyone needs to have a completed post at least once a month.

We understand that life can get busy, and that sometimes you have to put Langley on the back burner. However, without your posts there is no Simm.

At the moment a blind eye has been turned to posting figures, partly because of the holiday season, and a blind eye will be turned for the next month. That means that we will next review everyone’s posting numbers on the 16th February. Giving you all a chance to have at least one post by then. At which point we will reach out to those of you that have not posted.

If you feel that reaching the post minimum will be an issue for you, due to creative reasons, then please reach out to either myself or Kate, and we can figure out how to best help you with this.

If the minimum is going to be an issue owing to life getting in the way, then please ensure you have an active LOA, or talk to me or Kate for us to set one up for you.

Sorry to be the nag of the command team once again, but the hope is to get Langley more active, and an even more enjoyable place to be.

Ronald Hawk
Thank you all for hours

» Community Hero and other small thing

Posted on Wed Jan 15, 2020 @ 2:05pm by Captain Kate Banninga in Langley Times

Good afternoon everyone,

Another edition of Langley Times with some information about new things and/or changes to our simulation.

For this edition I'd like to start with some great news. We've found a community Hero. Our victim I mean Hero will be Zangetsu, writer of John Sheppard.

He'll be assisting the Command team with discord activity, writing contests and awards. You'll probably hear from him soon as Valentine's day is approaching and to me that sounds like the perfect time for a writing contest theme.

Some other things:

* As you must have heard I've been working on a project lately with the Access Roles. I'll be sending a seperate news item about that later today.

* Voting for Obsidian Fleet's End of Year awards are open for voting! I strongly encourage to vote. Langley is participating in each category.

» New Guide: Newbie Checklist

Posted on Sun Jan 5, 2020 @ 4:51pm by Captain Kate Banninga in Langley Times

Good Afternoon everyone on this cold and wet Sunday afternoon.

I've written something new for our sim, something I had thought of a while back.

After writing our newbie guide I knew there was something missing. I have a hard time remembering all the information that a new member of our station needs to know and to assist in that I've created a newbie checklist to accompany the newbie guide.

I think the checklist is rather self explanatory, but if you have any questions, feel free to ask.

If you recently joined Langley Station and want to make sure you've been told everything and have done everything you are free to use the checklist.

Here is the link:

That's it for now. I'm now going create a new awards :)

Sim Name + Date: Langley Station – December 2019
Sim Link:
Sim Name: Langley Station
Task Force: 72
Task Group: 72C

Sim Updates: Even with the busy holiday season we made some minor changes/updates to the website. After we started using a new skin a few months ago I did a round of fixes to it of things we found. Also got a new guide online. The Discord guideline, just so it is clear the kind of behavior we expect on Discord. And mostly what not.

We also concluded our writing participation content. The challenge was to write a post related to Thanksgiving, which three people took and completed. They’ve been handed the newly created award for this contest.

On Christmas Eve I did a round of awards. The Langleyversary award for 1- and 2-year membership, Captain’s Merit, Character and Post in the Spotlight and the above-mentioned Thanksgiving award. We’ve decided to make awards a more regular thing and do it each 3 months.

Crew Updates: We lost our Chief Counselor Nehini, who decided to step down for RL reasons.
We also had a former member return to Langley Station, Carl. This time he will be playing Victor, one of the stations engineers.

Story Elements: We’ve got a collection of stories going on at the moment which are all moving on in their own pace. We didn’t get any new stories last month or finished any.

Other Information: We have had a nice number of posts going out this month. Despite me being ill a number of times and the holidays. I’m really proud of my team and the stories we create together.

Number of Posts: 18
New applicants: 1
Pending applicants: 0

I want to use this opportunity to wish everyone a save years end and a happy 2020!

» Christmas Awards

Posted on Tue Dec 24, 2019 @ 9:15pm by Captain Kate Banninga in Awards

Happy Christmas Eve everyone,

I've got a little Christmas present for some of you. As I've mentioned before we want to do awards more often and what better moment to plan a new round of awards with Christmas. So, here we go.

The first two awards that I'll be handing out are a bit overdue. Even through we've always had these awards on the site they have never been handed out. I got a bit creative, came up with a new name and created some custom images.

Langleyversary First Year: For our members who have been a member of our family for more than a year.
Kate, Ana, Caoimhe, Ron, Megan & Ish.

Langleyversary Second Year: For our members who have been a member of our family for more than a year.
Kate, Ana & Caoimhe

Now some other awards:

Our new Thanksgiving writing award: Kate, Ron and Tuula. For participating in the Thanksgiving writing contest.

Captain's Personal Merit: Ronald Hawk - You've been such a great help these last months. I wouldn't have known what I would have done without you.

Character in the Spotlight: Tuula, For a truly intriguing character who contradicts all that would usually associate with a Star Fleet Officer, whilst also addressing issues of disability at work.

Post in the Spotlight: Dream of Nightmare by John Sheppard, for an interesting look into the comatose mind of John. Giving a dream sequence that connects with the reader emotionally.

That was it for this round of awards. Congratulations to the people who won! They'll be put on the website in a few days.

Again, Merry Christmas. I hope you all have an amazing couple of days.
