Langley Station

Welcome to Langley Station!

We, here at Langley, are absolutely not your "average RPG". Our primary focus is providing our writers with a shipload (of individual opportunities, including a focus on PC and NPC reactions. As a simm, our focus is on individual character development, coupled collaboration between our writers, and even with other RPG’s. We operate in our own, unique open world system. As a result, we run 'mini-missions' that focus on events related to the fleet, or more frequently, specifically to station development: reflections of an ever-changing set of political and logistical realities in our stellar neighborhood. We strive for each writer to have a firm idea of what their personal story is: and as a Command Team, it's our goal to mediate, and facilitate, the growth and development of our entire crew as writers and as characters.

Another update from the Command Team about what is going on behind the scenes. A bit shorter this time.

We have changed the name of the Langley Update to Langley Times. This is because we have decided to call the news agency of Langley will be called the Langley Times, a name we want to use both IC and OOC. In time I will be creating more information about the IC part of the Langley Times.

Another thing that I've upgraded are the uniforms we use on the station. The set we were using was from a previous sim I ran a couple of years ago and I thought it was time for a update. I found this great new set that works great with out station. It's just so you have a visual understanding of how our characters are dressed while on-duty.

Work on any other projects still progress, even with me being busy with work RL right now. I just want to draw your attention to the Community Hero we are looking for.

Are you interested in assisting the Command Team with involvement Out of Character on our Discord channel, please contact us.

That's it for this edition of the Langley Times. I hope you all have a week. For me, I am super busy with work and to make that even better, the kids will be free from school the coming week. So I'll probably need a bit more time to tag.

For now I hope you all have a great weekend and may the wine (or beer or whatever has your preference) taste good.

Hey everyone,

Another news item. I promise this will be the last for tonight.

We got a new idea submitted for a great story that I want to bring to your attention. This mission is going to start soon. You might already have heard of it on our Discord. Lance had a great idea for a derelict alien ship that will give its discoverers a lot of problems to solve and answers to get.

For more information, go to wiki's Mission page. Are you interested in joining, let Lance and the rest know in the mission ideas room on our Discord.

Good evening everyone,

Here is another Langley Update. It's goal, to give you all a look of what we are working on behind the scenes and/or things we like to bring to your attention. I hope to do them a bit more regular then I have so far.

To start I like to tell you about the changes I'm making to the Access Levels we use on the website. We've started reviewing the access levels and made a new list of how we want to have them so they work best for our website. Some abilities might be removed, and some might be added. When we will fully implement these changes you will receive more information about what exactly changed. A small preview: New group for Departments Heads. More abilities for all the players when it comes to NPC's.

We'll also be creating a new OOC position that we've dubbed the Community Hero. While we are still working out the details, this person's job will be to engage with everyone on our discord channel, welcome new people and assist the Command team with events like a Christmas writing contest. Are you already interested, talk to me or Ron.

We've also been thinking about the departments that currently don't have a Chief. We still hope to find a writer for those position, but in order to make them more attractive for prospective players and make them active departments again we've come up with the idea to create NPC's for the Chief positions. They will be either crew that will be acting chiefs or persons that will leave for some reason when a PC chief comes. This change of command will be written IC, which gives the new writer a nice intro story to begin with.
Right now we are looking for people who are willing to write the Chief of Strategic Operations and JAG. This also means assisting in getting the whole department active, just not placing a NPC in the spot.

The departments Civilian Affairs and the Colony DH positions have already been taken and stories are being worked on already. You might have seen Ron's short message about a storyline for the colony that will be started in a few weeks. (depending RL busyness). I'll be making a NPC of mine acting director of civilian affairs which will be woven in a personal story I'm doing with Kate. (more on that later as well)

I also want to mention to you the guides we are working on right now, or have just finished. Last week Ron finished our PNPC guide, which explains to everyone what is expected of our PNPC's and what you to do to get your new PNPC active on Langley. I'm working on a guide for the mission plan. A guide to give you a simple step by step plan about what to do when you have a amazing idea for a story that you want to run. Ron is working on a guide about Discord etiquette. Off course everyone is always nice and welcoming on Discord, but we just wanted to have it clear what the rules are, and what we expect of people from Langley. Just so it is clear for everyone.

To close this update I want to remind you of two fleet events. First don't forget to vote for the Gold Unit of Merit of the 3rd Quarter of 2019. There are still a few days left to vote. And there is the Pumpkin writing contest. For more information about both check out our announcement room on the Discord.

That's it for this time. I know it might be quite a read, but I think that's a good thing. As it means there are lots of things going on at Langley at the moment. And I didn't even mention everything we're working on! I hope everyone has a nice Sunday for the few hours they have left and have a good week!

Hi all.

Those of you that are on discord (which I think is all of you) will know I have taken the responsibilty of XO (OOC and IC). First off I want to say I love this group, and care a great deal about it’s success. I wouldn’t have excepted the role otherwise.

Having discussed with Kate what my roles and responsibilities will be, we have established that one of my main roles will be to keep an eye of activity, and engage with you all in order to keep everyone activity up. As such, I would first like to offer everyone the opportunity for Joint Posts. My select few characters are all available for this so just send me a starter or reach out to me on discord.

Now for a slightly more nagging part of my job.

As you should all be aware Kate sent out a roll-call a number of weeks ago. We have come to realise that a number of you have not yet responded. As a reminder you need to fulfil one of the following requirements:

A mission plan, outlining the intended development of your character

A solo post, using any of your characters

An LOA request (including an end date)

The deadline has actually passed but I want to give you all an opportunity to get on top of things, so will be checking back over this in a weeks time (Friday 4th October). Please have one of the above requirements fulfilled by then, or else me or Kate might have to go all Hulk on you.

I would however like to note that having looked over the activity within the Simm I am overall impressed, and I hope we can keep this level of activity going. Keep up the good work people, and sorry for the little moan.

The report for the month of September. I think we've had a great month and I hope we can continue the vibe that is currently on the station. ~Kate

Sim Updates
I’ve been working a lot on the website. I want to get a new skin with some handy features that will make the site more functional. I’ve implemented a few of those changes on the site already, although the skin will be a while. I’ve added a great mod that gives us a better field to specify the MD and the time of a post. After some discussing with the crew, we’ve also decided to create a separate mission, combined with a wiki page for the mission details. Instead of using a file offsite. That just didn’t work for Langley. I hope to implement a new main page later today.

Crew Updates
I’ve unfortunately had to let go my Executive Officer, who will continue to be a writer on Langley. I’ve also had to remove our Flight Control officer for inactive and accept the resignation of our Assistant Chief of Security.

We also gained a new player, Ragnar who will be writing a Romulan refugee and his son.

Open position we hope to fill soon: Director of Civilian Affairs, Chief JAG and Chief Strategic Operations.

Story Elements
At the moment we have seven stories running next to our story. As mentioned earlier we’ve given the major multi-post stories a separate mission to make it easier to find stories back later and to see which post belongs to which story.

We have finally moved on the timetable to MD’s 40-50 and posted all the older post that were still being written.

Other Information
Even though I’ve have been a little under the weather I’ve managed to do a lot for Langley, which is also visible in the difference in length of this reported compared to the last few reports.
Over the last weeks we’ve gained a number of new crew, all with very interesting story to be told and the crew has also become more active. Because of this I am really looking forward to what we are going to write the next couple of months.

Also nice to note. We now have more then a 100 NPC’s!!! Love it how the station is being shaped by all those characters.

Number of Posts: 34
Number of PC’s: 14
Number of NPC’s: 102
New applicants: 1
Pending applicants: 1
Post average: 2.27
