Mission: S01E02: First Unity
Location: Langley Station - Level 26 - Armoury
Timeline: MD03 1200 Hours

Having met all those above or at the same level as himself, Ron knew his next task would be to meet his department heads. He knew exactly where it was he wanted to start. With the department where his heart was. Security. Where better to find a chief security officer than in the armoury. Every journey on this station seemed to last a life time compared to the ships he was used to, but he finally arrived and allowed the doors to partway before him.

Ana looked up from her work as the doors opened. "Good day, Commander, what can I do for you?" She asked putting the phaser that she'd been working on.

Ron was surprised by the warm welcome he received, but he wasn’t all together sure why. “Lieutenant Chernova?” He enquired not wanting to rush into introductions with the wrong person.

"That's me and you must be Lt. Commander Hawk. Welcome to the Armoury." Ana said.

Ron nodded in acknowledgment, before tuning his head to look around at the armoury. He was happy to see it well stocked, but not so happy with the disorganised state. “I assume you have only recently had a shipment of arms?” He enquired, attempting to sound nonchalant about the matter, but it was not easy. If a shipment hadn’t been recently received then this room was far below the standards he would expect

"Yes, the shipment was delayed several days as the freighter's escort encountered a meteor storm."Ana replied. "You are aware that all civilian vessels require a Starfleet escort due to increased pirate activity?"

“I was aware of some pirate activity, but I had no idea it was so bad,” Hawk replied with honesty. “What is being done about the situation?”

"Starfleet has sent several ships to locate the pirate bases and patrol the space lanes." Ana replied.

“That’s all well and good,” Hawk scorned, “but what are you doing? You are head of security here on this station, you must have some ideas about putting and end to these pirates ill conceived ventures.”

"I have a few ideas simmering, but they need a little more work, pirates can be a cunning lot, I encountered some when I was a freighter captain." By 'freighter Captain', she meant smuggler, but the Commander didn't need to know that. "And later as a military contractor." By which she meant mercenary.

“What ideas?” Ron asked not allowing his line of questioning rooms to breathe. He felt as if perhaps not everything was being revealed to him that should be. He sure as hell wasn’t going to let anything slip him by.

"I've been planning an undercover mission and I'm also in contact with other Security Chiefs in the area." Ana said. "I can't go into anymore detail until, I've acquired some more intel, and run the idea by the Captain."

“Don’t you think, that as part of your chain of command I should also be in the know?” Ron had lost patience with the woman now and he wasn’t afraid to show it. “Unless you consider me a threat to your operation?”

"I am aware of the chain of command, sir." Ana said. "but I don't know you, I have a working relationship and a friendship with Captain Banninga. Frankly, I don't know if you're a treat."

“You don’t need to trust me. Starfleet has placed me directly above you in your chain of command. That means Starfleet has enough trust in me to give me this position.” Hawk frowned, “You will repeat the chain of command no matter what your personal feelings might be, do I make myself clear?”

"Affirmative, sir." Ana said. "Did you come here for a particular reason, sir, or was it just to tell me how to do my job?"

“As a matter of fact, I’m doing the rounds. Getting a feel for each department and making sure they have everything they need.” Ron was showing no sign of easing his attitude. “So, you know what I expect from you, what do you need from me?”

"Some more staff would be nice, this is a big place, and perhaps the acknowledgement that know how to do my job. I have after all been doing security work, in one way or another, since before your great grandfather was out of diapers." Ana said not raising her voice.

“You might have an extremely good knowledge of security,” Hawk said with narrowed eyes, “but it is apparent that knowledge does not stem into discipline. I might be old school, but I expect discipline out of officers under my care, and I expect the chain of command to be respected. I will let you get on with your work, but you report to me, don’t forget that.” With that, Hawk turned to start making his way toward the door in hidden exasperation.

"Good bye, Commander, a pleasure meeting you." Ana called out to Ron's back.
